Advocacy Day 2019

ADVOCACY DAY IS ON TUESDAY, MAY 7 THIS YEAR!

Thank you for your interest in joining us to advocate for important breast cancer legislation. This year we will travel to Springfield to advocate for the following items:

  • $15 million in State GRF for the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP)
  • Call on Dept of Healthcare and Family Services to implement the BEST Act and restart the Mammography Quality Program
  • Support SB162 to expand access to diagnostic mammography services
  • Ensure access to data from the Illinois State Cancer Registry (ISCR)

TRANSPORTATION & BUS INFORMATION

You will have the option to choose one of our two bus routes. 

BUS 1 will have two pick up locations: 
7:15 AM - Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester Ave. Chicago, IL 60637
7:45 AM – Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 W 95th St., Chicago, IL 60628

BUS 2 will have two pick up locations:
7:00 AM: Task Force Office, 300 S. Ashland Ave. Chicago, IL 60607
7:30 AM: The Resurrection Project, 1818 S Paulina, Chicago, IL 60608

Both buses will return to Chicago by 7:00 PM on the day of the event. If you are unsure which bus you are on, click here to see the full bus list.

PREPARATION
A prep call with all of Advocacy Day at the Capitol participants was held on Wednesday, May 1st, at 6:00pm. If you missed the call, but would like to listen to the recording, click here

Additional Reminders & Ways to Prepare

Do:
Get a good night's rest
Arrive to your bus stop on time
Wear comfortable shoes (and your pink T-Shirt if you have one from last year)
Travel light
Bring photo ID (not necessary, just a suggestion)
Call your legislators to let them know you will be in Springfield (Legislator look-up can be found here)
Think about how you can make the ask personal by sharing your story

Don't:
Forget to bring any necessary medication you might need during the day
Get angry or frusturated with your legislator if they do not agree with you
Bring up other political affiliations or lobby about unrealted issues
